When I decided to ask my fiancé to marry me, I knew I wanted to use my grandmother's ring. The problem was that the ring had damage due to many years of use. The setting had cracks, and the diamond was loose. I also felt that the design of the ring should be updated to something more elegant and modern, while retaining the character of the original.
Working with a local jeweler, we designed something very unique. We used some elements from the original ring, while giving it a fresh new look. We used 6 honey sapphires, and 6 small diamonds to surround the original diamond in a floral pattern. It took a couple months of back and forth, but the end result was something that will be an heirloom.
And because no proposal would be complete without a unique presentation, I decided to have a special ring box made for the occasion. I worked with a local artist to create a hand-drawn design of daffodils to have inlaid into a wooden box. I worked with the drawing to smooth it out, and prepare it for inlay, changing and removing elements that would not work for that application. I chose purpleheart and birdseye maple for a stunning contrast.
